More Trouble on Broadcast Row

...and it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of folks.

Top Producer Out at NBC 'Nightly News. Apparently, Mr. Williams is displeased after Charlie Gibson and ABC supplanted him at the top of the ratings heap. Pssst...hate to tell this to you, but your audience is only a fraction of what it was 20 years ago. Most of your viewers abandoned the networks years ago, and more are jumping ship every month. Consider these numbers: NBC Nightly News has lost an average of 570,000 viewers over the last year, but ABC's World News has gained only 60,000. What happened to the "other" 510,000 viewers who used to watch Nightly News? Moved to cable. Or the internet. And they won't be back.

One thing's for sure, those half-million "missing" viewers aren't flocking to the Perky One and the CBS Evening News. Since assuming the anchor chair last September, her audience has lost 120,000 viewers, compared to last year. Ms. Couric's $15 million-a-year paycheck is looking like a really smart investment, eh Mr. Moonves?

Speaking of the perky one, do you check out her blog? Some "good" recent posts on Al Gore and the burden small towns (aka "poor people") are bearing in the Iraq War...
